She will guide you through every step, from casting on to casting off, and won't let you leave with a dropped stitch!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat you will make\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOver the four sessions you will knit a complete pair of socks using \u003cstrong\u003etop-down construction\u003c\/strong\u003e (cuff to toe). This is the most popular method for beginners because you can try the sock on as you go and adjust the fit before you reach the heel. You will learn:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eCasting on in the round using double-pointed needles or a short circular needle\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eKnitting the ribbed cuff and leg\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eWorking a heel flap and gusset — the classic heel technique\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003ePicking up gusset stitches and shaping the foot\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003eFinishing with Kitchener stitch (grafting) for a seamless toe\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eTop-down vs toe-up — which method is right for you?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne of the most common questions beginners ask is: \u003cem\u003eshould I knit top-down or toe-up?\u003c\/em\u003e Here's a quick guide so you know what to expect.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eTop-down (cuff to toe)\u003c\/strong\u003e — you start at the cuff and work toward the toe. This is the traditional method with the most patterns available. The heel flap and gusset gives a roomy, comfortable fit, and many knitters find it easier to learn because the sock takes shape quickly and you can try it on early. This is the method we use on this course.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eToe-up\u003c\/strong\u003e — you start at the toe and work toward the cuff. The big advantage is that you can knit until you run out of yarn, so you get maximum length from your skein. Heel options like the short-row heel or Fish Lips Kiss Heel are common. However, the cast-on (usually Judy's Magic Cast-On) takes a little practice, so most tutors recommend trying top-down first.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBoth methods produce beautiful, wearable socks — it really comes down to personal preference.
